Constantly Surpassing Himself to Realize His Dream of Contributing to the World

Born in Osaka, Tomohiro Morita is a disaster physician. After graduating from the University of Tokyo's School of Medicine in 2012, he worked at Soma Central Hospital in 2014 and was accepted into the graduate school of the University of Tokyo's School of Medicine in April of the same year. Since childhood, Morita had dreamed of becoming a doctor, hoping to contribute to the world. He believes that his aspiration was influenced by his mother, who once told him, "A doctor who can save lives is a noble profession."

When Morita was in his final year of medical school, the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred. At that time, he was training in Australia. After returning to Japan, he learned that Fukushima was in a very difficult situation due to the nuclear power plant crisis. Eager to help, he sought to contribute to the improvement of the situation.

The professor from his laboratory happened to be visiting the disaster-stricken areas, and Morita requested to join. Two months after the earthquake, he finally arrived in Fukushima and performed health checkups for the villagers before they evacuated. After that, he visited every month to help local doctors. This experience in Fukushima made him deeply realize the amount of time and effort needed for reconstruction, which further ignited his passion and motivated him to stay in a hospital in Fukushima as a physician.

Throughout Tomohiro Morita's growth, his mother gave him many opportunities to explore, such as allowing him to try feeding insects. If he showed an interest in insects, she would buy him various related books. It was also his mother who introduced him to KUMON when he was in kindergarten, and he continued learning with KUMON, eventually surpassing the academic level of his grade. He never felt bored or uninterested, nor did he ever think of stopping his KUMON studies.

Reflecting on his growth, he is grateful that through KUMON, he built a solid foundation in mathematics, English, and Japanese, allowing him to progress at his own pace and eventually study beyond his grade level. Moreover, during his KUMON journey, he realized the importance of "repetition." For example, repetitive practice enhances his calculation skills, allowing him to solve problems quickly and accurately. Repetition in practicing kanji or English words also helps him memorize and deeply understand their meanings.

Tomohiro Morita believes that unless one is a genius, most people must improve through repeated practice, and KUMON is a learning method that helps everyone solidify their foundation, improve step by step, and continue to surpass themselves at their own pace!
